On June 15th, Haikou won the 8th SEE Ecology Award at the 7th China Enterprise Green Contract Forum and the 8th SEE Ecology Award Ceremony jointly sponsored by the Alxa League Administrative Office and the Alxa SEE Ecological Association.
Haikou boasts various rivers, swamps, lakes and reservoirs. There are 11 kinds of wetland such as coastal wetlands, river wetlands, lake wetlands and constructed wetlands, and the wetland rate in Haikou is as high as 12.7%.
In just two years, Haikou actively promoted the protection and restoration of wetlands and became one of the first 18 “international wetland cities” in the world. Haikou's wetland protection and restoration has been recognized by the international community and has become a successful example of implementing the wetland protection and restoration system in China. Haikou was also awarded the first “Ecological China Wetland Protection Demonstration Award” in January 2019.
The award of the SEE Ecology Award shows Haikou's work on the protection and restoration of wetlands has been recognized again. The SEE Ecology Award is the largest Non-governmental environmental protection organization award in China. It continues to record and display the strength and spirit of Chinese folk environmental protection by means of awards.
The forum has been successfully held for seven times, and this year it was held on June 15th at Wuhan Huaxia Institute of Technology.
